Ютараптор

Diet
Utahraptor’s diet consisted predominantly of large herbivorous dinosaurs. In the formations where it was found (the Yellow Cat and Poison Strip members of the Cedar Mountain Formation, respectively), Utahraptor lived alongside such dinosaurs as Gastonia, Hippodraco, Cedrorestes, Iguanacolossus, Martharaptor, and Falcarius. Sauropods such as Venenosaurus and Cedarosaurus were also found here, as were other predators such as Nedcolbertia and Geminiraptor. Any one of these was a potential prey item, though the smaller animals such as Necolbertia would have been little in the way of a meal for such a predator as Utahraptor. As with all predators, Utahraptor likely targeted animals such as the infirm, weak and inexperienced. Scavenging was also probably a preferable opportunity when there was access to a carcass. Like most dromaeosaurine dromaeosaurids, Utahraptor probably relied on its jaws to kill prey more than other subfamilies of dromaeosaurs did. As a result and based on the analysis of related species like Dromaeosaurus, which included bone in its diet, Utahraptor probably had an extremely powerful bite as a result.
GameplayEdit
Turok: Dinosaur HunterEdit
Utahraptors in Dinosaur Hunter act as a rogue dinosaur force. Unlike later titles, they tend to be slower with their movements, but trade it for erratic strafing patterns.
Turok: EvolutionEdit
Utahraptors are found early on in Evolution, first being encountered during «Jungle Hunter» before being found again during multiple levels of The Shadowed Lands in Chapter 6.
The Sleg also capture Utahraptors and keep them penned up inside the Sleg Fortress. Some variants have the ability to use a jump attack, but this is only present in The Shadowed Lands.
TurokEdit
Turok’s Utahraptors act much like their predecessors, being quick, pack-hunting enemies. These dinosaurs can now jump consistently, over being limited with the ability, and they have a better footspeed than every human player in the game, making them agile.
Like most other dinosaurs, they’re also attracted to flares, and will attack each other and MG forces if a flare is launched and stuck to them.

TriviaEdit
- The Utahraptors in Turok feature inaccurately pronated (facing the body) hands, like the raptors of the Jurassic Park series.
- In Turok, the albino Utahraptors are significantly less durable than the regular and Spitter Utahraptors. They can only tank two shots from the shotgun, while the other two variants can tank three to four shots.
- The Utahraptors of Turok are very close to the size of an actual Utahraptor, while they also possess a few head feathers similar to the Velociraptors of Jurassic Park III. Unlike their real counterparts, it’s more probable Utahraptors had a full coat of feathers and even wing feathers on their arms.

Move CardsEdit
- Atomic Bomb
- Utah jumped into the air, curling into a ball and spinning, before flying down back-first with a glowing Mach cone! The only use of this attack was countered by Ace’s Cyclone, so precisely how it would have ended is uncertain, though likely with a massive impact. This usage is nothing like its much simpler portrayal in the arcade game of flipping and stomping down.

Possible Social Nature
The discovery of a group of six Utahraptor including a 16-foot adult, several juveniles and a 3-foot baby indicates pack-hunting might have been a possibility in this genus. The animals in question were pursuing prey that had become mired in quicksand when they themselves were trapped, leading to their death. The fossils were later found by Dr. James Kirkland etc., and are currently being studied, though progress is currently halted on the specimen after a decade of excavation. Whether all of the Utahraptor individuals were mired simultaneously or were lured in one-by-one is unclear, but the answer may yet come to light once crowdfunding efforts to bring in professional excavator Scott Madsen are completed.
TriviaEdit

Dr. Taylor’s arcade comments:
- Japanese: 手足にするどいかぎづめを持つ肉食恐竜だ。後足のかぎづめは30cmにもおよぶ。
- English: A carnivore with hooked claws on its hands and feet. The ones on its hind feet are 30cm long.
- Taiwanese: 在手腳有著極為銳利的勾爪的肉食恐龍,後腳的勾爪長達30公分。
- It is the first Silver rarity Wind Dinosaur card in the arcade.
- Along with Carnotaurus, Ceratosaurus, Allosaurus, Neovenator, Monolophosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Megaraptor, Deltadromeus, Eustreptospondylus, and Sinraptor, it is one of the available dinosaurs in the Japanese and Taiwanese non-sale Wind Egg card.
- In the arcade game, Utahraptor’s screech is an altered version of Spinosaurus’s.
- Utahraptor being thrown by Tank’s Dino Swing is featured in the English opening theme sequence.
- It is the only wild dinosaur to activate with a Move Card (Atomic Bomb) but not use it while it was a wild dinosaur, only after the Alpha Gang gained control of and summoned it. The only similar case was Styracosaurus, whose Move Card was separated before its own card activated.
- The specific combination of Utahraptor and Atomic Bomb in the anime could be a reference to the atomic bomb testing in Utah in the 1950’s.

Physical Appearance
Utahraptor was a very large dromaeosaur, one of the biggest members of its’ family. It was about 1.7-2 meters tall, 6-7 meters long, and weighed about 1,000 pounds/453 kg. It lived from 131 to 126 mya during the Barremian Stage of the early Cretaceous and is closely related to Achillobator and Dromaeosaurus. Its skeletal design was birdlike; with bones that were hollow, but strong. Recent fossil discoveries of more complete skeletons of Utahraptor by James Kirkland et al. paint a picture also of a dromaeosaur that was more heavily-built and stocky than the «typical» Deinonychus body plan generally associated with other dromaeosaurs. The legs were short and stocky, while the tail was also relatively short in comparison to that of related forms. The jaws were most unusual, with the front of the lower jaw bent forward and down in a case of convergence with the unrelated Masiakasaurus.
Utahraptor and other dromaeosaurs might have had binocular vision, like that of an eagle. Its hearing was probably excellent. Scientists recently discovered that raptors in general could best hear low f-equency sounds. Dromaeosaurs like Utahraptor, regardless of size, were all covered in feathers according to cladistic analysis. Though feathers from the arms were known to be true feathers in other dromaeosaurs such as Dakotaraptor and Velociraptor, the rest of the dinosaur’s plumage is speculative (though fossil finds of smaller species exhibit many of the same types of feathers that are found in modern birds, In Utahraptor, the exact plumage type is not known).
The feathers on the arms of young dromaeosaurids would have enabled a special type of locomotion called wing-assisted incline running, or WAIR for short. Discovered by Ken Dial, a Montana zoologist, this is a behavior used by modern birds that combines flapping the wings back and forth while running up the sides of trees. This flapping pushes the feet of the bird against the tree, allowing it to run vertically up the trunk. This indicates, but does not prove, that small dromaeosaurs lived part-time in the trees. In larger species, the wing feathers may have helped to maintain balance while attacking prey.
AnimeEdit
Dinosaur KingEdit
Utahraptor’s card was activated with his Move Card by a gust of special effects wind on the set of the Dino Troopers show in A Game Show Showdown, in the same TV studio where the D-Team and Alpha Gang were competing in a trivia game show. He wandered around several other sets, interfering with filming by scaring everyone away, but was intercepted by the Alpha Gang. Ursula sent Tank to battle him, hitting him with her tail club before defeating him with Dino Swing, allowing the Alpha Gang to claim his cards. Zander used the Alpha Controller on his card to take control of him and let them summon him without the Wind Stone. Ursula sent «Utah» after the D-Team, fighting Chomp but being too fast to hit. She had him use Atomic Bomb, but Ace intercepted the attack with Cyclone, disorienting Utah and letting Chomp defeat him with Electric Charge. The cards were reclaimed by Max, but later went to Rex.
Another Utahraptor was part of the Alpha Gang’s dinosaur amusement park in Carnival of Chaos. Due to being unfed, its stopped working and it got loose like all the other dinosaurs. It was returned to its card by a pet-sized Chomp, Ace, or Paris knocking off its control device and was reclaimed by an Alpha Droid. It was never seen or mentioned before or since.
Mesozoic MeltdownEdit
Another Utahraptor was seen in Two Shoguns Are Better Than One in Space Pirate possession escaping its cage and running away from getting its shot from Dr. Drake. It ended up pushing him through an air vent, allowing him to accidentally escape the Space Pirate’s Ship the first time.
